What is Dyslexia?
Dyslexia is a reading disabily and aproximately 15% of people have it! There is no ONE way to diagnose dyslexia, but it can easily be diagnosed because of common symptoms.
Many schools avoid diagnosing dyslexia early (1st - 4th grade), because many children "grow out of it".
Fact: You don't "grow out" of dyslexia!
Your child may have dyslexia if it:
- Reads very slowly
- Confuses letters that look a like (like b,d,p,q)
- Relies on pictures and memory when "reading" books
- Omits letters and words (particularly small words)
There are many more symptoms of dyslexia.
But, don' worry. Dyslexia can also be a gift, dyslexics are usually very creative and artistic.
Dyslexia can easily affect the student's ability to do math, that connection will be added soon.
