What is Dyscalculia?
Dyscalculia is a specific learning disability in mathematics and aprox. 5% of the population have it!
It has many types (around 50!) but most common are difficulties with numbers and symbols.
Dyscalculics tend to have difficulties learning sequences (like days and rhymes), but sequences are of course very important in math!
General difficulties are listed below:
- learning how to tell time
- learning the multiplication tables
- knowing directions
- left/right confusion
- learning names of the days and months
- learning rhymes
- learning sequences
- behavioural/social problems
- cause/affect
Of course, this will affect the person's ability to do math in general, and many people are affected by dyscalculia in it's daily lives. Many people don't know that the term "dyscalculia" even exists, the feel overwhelmed by math and surely need help with math!
